A day off

I'm taking Tuesday off, from work and from blogging.

Why?

Don't waste your time on the Internet tomorrow. Go vote. Don't let anything dissuade you from voting, be it long lines or scare tactics or the thought that your vote doesn't matter.

(Uh, okay, so before and after we vote, I'll be playing Star Wars Galaxies. But tomorrow night, I'm watching returns. See you Wednesday.)

  • I voted. It took a little more time than usual, but so what. It was great to see so many people at our polling place at 7 a.m. Line down the sidewalk, out to the street, and then some. Especially in our strong Kerry neighborhood.

I'm not watching returns. I'm a pessimist. I can't help it. And I won't be surprised to see an assload of "red" states tomorrow and a smiling functional idiot talking about his "mandate." Even less compromise than in the last four years (not that there's really been any). But here's hoping.

Also, I've been getting madder and more disgusted at all the "challengers" and "observers" and lists of black voters and crap. Why am I not out doing something? I have no defense. But this is the last year that happens.

Along those lines, why is today not a national holiday? When you think about who would benefit, it may be obvious. And that's sad.

Penny and I have joked about moving to another country. We haven't talked about it seriously, and I'm not inclined to let those I disagree with push me to leave my home. But the world is a big, cool place, and there's a lot more to it than America. No surprise, of course, but our travels in the last few years have really brought that home. Might be time to do some more thinking.

  • Yeah, I think that the current political drift poses serious dangers to democracy itself in this country. You always need to know when it's time to get out. You don't want to be the frog who can't tell that the water's getting warmer.
