My take on the Kerry thing
Instead of reaching for a joke, he should have just come right out and said "George W. Bush is an idiot." Then it would have been crystal clear.

Yeah.
It sort of shows what a boob Kerry is and that he hasn't learned a goddamned thing. I don't think this is any different than how he handled himself during the election, which was to try to offer up a bunch of scripted and managed dialogue that he hoped would score a bunch of points. I think this is why he lost the last election -- he just says what he thinks people want to hear, but reasonable people can always detect some kind of dishonesty in that and it turns them off.
I liked him better long, long ago when he actually said what was really on his mind. It all made sense, and it was something you could get behind and believe.
